Title: Internet access blocked while in Taipei. Sniffed traffic, or page monitoring?
Post by: rweb2222 on December 01, 2013, 04:41:04 AM
Hello. I was in Taipei a couple weeks ago and using BolehVPN. I don't fully understand the technical differences between the connection methods. I usually default to surf-streaming mode. When trying to access xnxx.com, I got a page that indicated the site was blocked. Not shocking, so I tried Fully-Routed All. I got the same response. Proxied-All: same response.

This indicates 1 of the following:

Aside from the foolishness of using a company laptop to surf porn (I would argue that's a reasonable thing to do while on a business trip where I cannot carry 2 laptops, but that's debatable), how can I better understand what was blocking my access, and make sure that BolehVPN works as I expect?

It's a bit hard to troubleshoot this issue now, since you're no longer there and using that internet source. However, since you got this message on both FullyRouted and SurfingStreaming, it's quite possible that the VPN itself was blocked from connecting by the hotel there.

1. Is out.
2. Is a possibility.
3. Is easily tested, by using another internet source to access the same site.

In the future, you should check if the VPN was running. Do this by visiting www.myip.dk (http://www.myip.dk) before and then after you connect to the VPN. Your IP should change if you connected to a FullyRouted or SurfingStreaming server.

If it doesn't, email us at support@bolehvpn.net with the logs from the VPN client's Log tab. And also try either the Cloak servers or the SurfingStreamingTCP / FullyRoutedTCP servers.
