Title: How do you decide which country to use?
Post by: Gnikf on August 17, 2012, 01:12:11 AM
For best speed, ping and overal perfomance, how do you decide which of the servers in different countries to use?
I suppose not always the nearest in miles is the best?

Closest server is a good rule of thumb. However testing each country for yourself and seeing which gives the best performance is probably the best idea, as your ISP can route differently for different countries.

Also you may wish to examine the privacy laws of each of these  countries etc :D

That's a very good point. Do you have any resources where you can find the laws of oh, the most FAQ that are current?

MM, you don't keep logs on any of the servers, right?
So how that matters?

I suppose from the 4 countries you have, Luxemburg and Swiss are most liberal?

We don't keep logs on the servers. But in some cases, not keeping logs may be in breach of these laws. I'll leave you to draw the inferences as to why we separate surfing/streaming servers out :D

That sound like you keep logs on the US and UK servers?

Lol no we don't. US doesn't have a data retention policy surprisingly.

UK has a voluntary data retention policy via a code of practice.

So far it is our opinion that we think this means there is no mandatory data retention policies in place.

I always choose the country with the best internet privacy laws. I hope to see routes for the Netherlands, and Sweden soon!

Hello, just one question; what happens when you get a copyright infrigment notice from
right holder's spying companies ? Not logs ok but how do you react then since i'm
sure it already happened before ?
Could you perhaps tell us if there are some contries where this never happens (in
order to make the right choice when we connect) ?
Thanks.

Most of the time we find providers that do not enforce this.

Luxembourg seldom forwards this to us.
