He asked me what the error message was using the gui
my response
the gui only works for 209, later versions wont work.
there is no error message, i will try to explain this
When using a gui that works like 209 for windows 8 or the newest one with windows 7, or anyone with a working the gui
the following happens
on any normal working gui
enter login and password
wait a few seconds
then the gui where it says under login "connect using" your default login loads up and also give you a drop down menu to select another server and the button to connect is operational.
In my situation
always run as administrator
enter password and login
and then nothing happens, the gui where it says "connect using" is left blank, nothing shows up at all, no default sever, no drop down menu, nothing at all,
therefore no error message or log, because the program wont do anything after the login password is entered. everything is left greyed out.
considerations
I have been using 209 on the windows 8 for streaming and on my laptop windows 7 latest gui for p2p
Is there anyway to get the latest gui working on windows 8 ?
Is running the 209 gui on the windows 8 machine cause any security issues like ip leakage?
Is running the open source openvpn an option? (i really have no idea how to do this though)
thanks for reading!

You're saying this works on Windows 7 though?

For your description, maybe you need to try to uninstall the old one and reinstall it by default path. That is because of some place is not allow the app to download config files.
-
i always unistall the old gui, reboot then install the new gui ? is that what you mean to do or does default path mean something diffrent?
-
Default path means you gotta let it install it without changing the installation path.
-
well i just install it, i don't change where it install too
-
Okie last try
Can you try surfing to https://portal.bolehvpn.net using Internet Explorer and let me know if there's a long delay before loading? And once it loads, restart GUI and then see if it allows the login?
-
yes there was a very short delay and then website loaded, and when i closed the gui and reopened it it allowed for login!!! ;D
So should i follow this procedure if i have to reinstall windows?
thanks

Sure thing. It doesn't appear on ALL installations. Just some of them which is very queer.
