Cannot connect to many servers from China
« on: August 12, 2013, 08:54:40 PM »
I have difficulties connecting to many servers in China, including those cloaked ones. See attached screenshot please.

I cannot visit BolehVPN's website either without VPN.

China's Great Firewall has blocked our main website actually. Try using our mirror, www.ke-yi.net

Since you're in China, use the CloakRouted servers, the others won't work due to the great firewall. I suggest the SJ or LA servers.

Not even SJ and LA are very reliable. Since I am back to China. Boleh is now very poor value for money for me at least for now. Would there be another pricing option for China users. It often takes me 5 mins to find a working server, and I already paid for a full year with Boleh VPN.

We're sorry to hear that. Could you try running a traceroute or ping test to our US-Westcoast, Canada and HK servers?

192.154.103.195
198.27.64.114

Please also provide us with your logs from your connection attempts. Are you on a wired internet connection? Is this from a personal line or from a hotel / work?

Looks like SJ or HK should give you the best performance. Are you on a wireless or wired connection? Is this a personal line in china? Could you try the SJ or HK servers and give us the logs from your connection attempts?

This error you get seems to indicate a problem with your network interface. Rebooting your system should make it go away.

Alternatively, you could try this

Open a Terminal window. (Found in Applications -> Utilities.)
Enter the following commands:
sudo ifconfig en1 down
sudo route flush
sudo ifconfig en1 up
Please make sure to replace en1 with your actual Internet interface.
If you don't know which en interface is your Internet interface you can do a:
sudo ifconfig
To get an overview and figure out which en interface is your Internet interface.

Hi!

I am also living in China. Just subscribed to BolehVPN for 1 week to try it. I have the following problems:

1) when launching BolehVPN client the first time (I use BolehGUI 2.2.2b), I cannot login and download/update the configuration file. I had to use another VPN (!) to be able to login and load the BolehVPN server updated list.

2) now, since I could login once using another VPN, I can login and connect to several cloak servers, but I cannot ping or speed test ANY server. So I do not know which one respond faster. CloakRouted-US-LA seems to work well, but I cannot compare with other servers.

Thank you in advance for your help.

My system: Win7 64bit.
Location/ISP: Shanghai, China Telecom.

The first error should not have happened. Does updating your configs work if you go to the Settings tab and hit Update?

For the second, I would suggest testing each out manually, those features may be broken due to the Great Firewall. I suggest using the closer servers, e.g. HK or San Jose.

Hello,

Sorry to come back so lately, my first experience with Boleh was not so concluding, so I gave up and went on using another VPN. Now I decided to try once more Boleh, since it has very good comments on privacy and it is located in Asia. But from China there is 2 major problems persisting:

1) There is no way to ping or speed test any server (auto or one by one manually, both do not work), so I just connect to xcloakedrouted-Los Angeles, it is working, but I would like to be able to test others servers to compare which one is the fastest. Is there a way to fix that? It's a bit frustrating to have no server choice at all.

2) I cannot download any torrent (using uTorrent) when I am connected to BolehVPN.

Just curious, why there is no server in Singapore or Malaysia, for example?

Thank you.

What is the error you get? Try the other XCloakRouted servers. Remove any proxy settings you've enabled in uTorrent.

You can't ping the servers due to the Great Firewall blocking this. Just try the geographically closer servers and test, this is theo nly way unfortunately.

We do not have servers in SG  / MY due to cost and lack of demand.

Thank you for your quick answer.

For uTorrent, I've tried both xcloacked servers from Los Angeles (TCP and non TCP), I do not get any error message but uTorrent cannot connect to any server/seeder (TCP/UDP test fails), so there is no upload, no donwload, and zero seed found! When I switch off BolehVPN, uTorrent can work (but still quite slow from China, while it should be faster with VPN). I did not use any proxy settings at all.

Are there any other recommended server in the list, excepted the two LA cloacked servers, for China?

Use the canada xcloak if you want p2p as USA servers are not p2p enabled.

I've tried xcloack Canada: connecting time is very slow, and once connected through Canada, internet speed is really very low from China, many websites cannot be displayed properly.

But you're right, then uTorrent can establish connection with servers.
