Title: Why does the vpn say im based in Malaysia when im connected?
Post by: D43B35 on January 25, 2012, 01:03:05 AM
Hi

I connect to fully routed Luxembourg so that my ip says im in Luxembourg. This site http://whatismyipaddress.com/ (http://whatismyipaddress.com/) proves that.

But when i click in gmail or google i get redirected to the Malaysian page of the site. Why is this?

Please provide the logs. It will show if you are successfully connected to the server or not.

I deleted the cookie from both firefox and chrome but according to google im still based in Malaysia.

Then i found this http://www.google.com.my/intl/en/policies/privacy/ (http://www.google.com.my/intl/en/policies/privacy/) or more specifically this-

Cookies – When you visit Google, we send one or more cookies to your computer or other device. We use cookies to improve the quality of our service, including for storing user preferences, improving search results and ad selection, and tracking user trends, such as how people search. Google also uses cookies in its advertising services to help advertisers and publishers serve and manage ads across the web and on Google services.

Log information – When you access Google services via a browser, application or other client our servers automatically record certain information. These server logs may include information such as your web request, your interaction with a service, Internet Protocol address, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser or your account.

With this in mind i should probably change search provider-but to who? which search provider is more secure? Would ixquick be one to use?

So basically its impossible to delete cookies that google sends you. I tried deleting cookies from both firefox and chrome but google still says im in Malaysia even though im connected to luxembourg fully routed.
