I tried installing OpenVPN but I got "An error occurred installing the TAP device driver"
Can anyone help me?
-
Any further details?
What OS are you running?
-
I'm running on Windows 7 Professional x64. thanks
-
What installation file are you using?
Are you using 2.1.1 ? Try running the install in admin mode.
-
I've installed using Administrator, turned off the UAC, compatibility and everything. Also used the 2.1.1 but to no avail
-
Try manually installing the driver from here http://openvpn.se/files/xp64/tap-win64.zip
-
Hi. That didn't work either. Ran it through Admin and compatibility mode but to no avail.
-
do you have any other network adapters? What is the installation log saying when it fails?
Try disabling ur antivirus?
-
This is what it said during the installation: "An error occurred installing the TAP device driver"
I'll try to remove the AV. Currently using ESET Smart Security. Disabling it didn't work. Going to try to remove it and I'll give the results to you later.
As for network adapters. It is just my Wi-Fi dongle. Doubt that it messes with the configs
-
Didn't work either. No luck with AV off
-
Have you rebooted after uninstalling ESET?
With OpenVPN installed go to Start > All Programs > OpenVPN > Utilities > Delete ALL TAP-32 virtual Ethernet adapters (do it as administrator).
Reboot. While rebooting, press F8 during the boot sequence which'll open up the Advanced Boot Options list, and choose Disable Driver Signature Enforcement.
Go back to the directory, and click Install a new TAP virtual adapter (Remember to run this as admin) and try again.
-
Yeap reboot after uninstalling ESET but still the same. Interesting. I'll try this right away and will tell you the outcome
C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenVPN>"C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenVPN\bin\tapinstall.ex

Doesn't work either. Wow this is frustrating.
-
Chris can u do a teamviewer session with him.
-
Sure thing. Before that however, could you try uninstalling OpenVPN, disabling UAC, rebooting and disabling Digital Signing, and then try installing OpenVPN 2.1.1 again?
-
Done that and it didn't work. This one's a toughie
-
Hmm..
Could I get your ipconfig log please? Start > Run > Cmd > ipconfig > paste contents here
-
