Windows 8 Slower Connection Speed
« on: December 02, 2012, 04:05:31 PM »
Hey guys, I've been using BVPN for years now on a W7 pc, been working perfectly. Now I've moved to a W8 pc and noticed that the connection speed, regarding the speed it takes to establish a connection to the proxied server, not the transfer speed, is much slower than it was in W7.

It normally took around 7-10 to connect to the servers in W7, now it takes 30-35 seconds in the W8 rig. Is anyone else facing the same issue?

Is this every time you connect to a server in W8, or just the first time you connected to one?

Every time. Even if the GUI is running and I switch between servers, it still take substantially longer compared to W7.

Which version of the GUI are you using?

There's a new one at http://www.bolehvpn.net/downloads/BolehVPNV2013.exe

Though i have to say that recently Streamyx has been pretty shit

Hey maverickneo, I have the same issue... it takes forever to connect on Win 8 pro 64bit. Sometimes up to a minute.

You should also check that your IP address actually changes! Although mine says it is connected... when I go to whats my IP, it shows that my IP address is still my own one :(

This only happens 2 out of 5 times maybe... it seems to vary.

Could you enclose your logs please? And also check using myip.dk ?

some other sites cache data which results in incorrect reporting.

I could send you a screen print of your actual GUI with a Swedish 'Server IP' and my Public IP address being my usual one!
Even though the GUI says I am connected 100% and fully routed  to Sweden.
I used a couple of web sites and a Chrome plug in to verify that I was not routed at all.

There you go, my log file. Regarding the issue faced by iamnotanumber, I don't think I've experienced it. Although I've personally never checked my own IP, I mostly just use BVPN for P2P and Hulu. Never had an issue thus far.. except this one, the prolonged connection sequence.

I need the actual log file to see what are the errors posted that's preventing you from being routed. Screenshots won't show the full picture. The BolehVPN-GUI already had an inbuilt log that you can copy paste here.

Try hit update on your configs.

Found a rare bug in Windows 8 on some systems (compatibility issue with OpenVPN) which our update to configs SHOULD solve.

Hi, Have now done this... and restarted the client. I am running late for work so have only tried a few connections.
I 'think' it may be better. It is faster at connecting and more frequently connecting correctly.
I am still having failures though... the Switzerland one for example was slow and said connected despite me keeping the same IP. I'll keep you posted as I continue to test.

Thank you!

If you encounter the issue where your IP does not change, we really need the log

I'll try next time... though I did post my log earlier. Perhaps in this post or the other one I made. I cant remember. I jumped on this thread due to the slower connection part.
Thanks
I'll catch another log next time it happens.
