Digi Broadband Service
« on: May 19, 2009, 09:34:30 PM »
Read in newspaper and advertisement that the
Malaysian operator DiGi Telecommunications has
launched its wireless broadband service in Sabah
and Penang.

Anyone can comment on quality of service etc especially
in Kota Kinabalu area Sabah?

My previous experience with Celcom wireless broadband
service has left me with the impression that what is
claimed in advertisement just can not be trusted.

I won't be trying it due to the fair usage policy and additional charges on data usage. May be P1 though.

as far as i know, P1 has a fair usage policy of 3GB which is inclusive of upload AND download

As far as I know, what people claim in advertisements really can't be trusted, especially when it comes to internet service providers.

Personally, I'm sticking with streamyx. Sure, it has it's bad days, but getting .5 mbps extra is too good to give up for some unknown package.

Some footnotes on this.
My collegue recently brought his son to
KL for new college entry. He noted that
there were more than 100 stalls opening
for new broadband wireless subscribers.
I would say they are making quite a kill
for substandard services.

His neice who is already in KL has subscribed
to the new Digi broadband wireless service
but found the speed to be extremely slow.
Upon making representation to the shop
who she registered with....the reponse
was this...Didn't you see Digi's sales logo.
It's a tortoise. It's meant to be slow!

1 month after i subscribe my digi bb (explorer plan). My experience... more than impress and very satisfying in terms of the level of service provided. Downside is fair usage policy. I register my digi BB in kota kinabalu from 15 may to 30 may. And the service was great but than again, there ain't many ppl using it so their towers wont be crowded. The ads say 700Kbps dl and 200Kbps up but I mostly experience 1Mbps and 300Kbps. Now, i doing my degree and staying in Section17, PJ and still speeds at blazing. Also, eventhough the modem connection can only handle 20 connection but it connect to seed so easily and I always get max speed from it from US/Canada/JP seed. currently, digi havent throttle bandwidth yet but i dont know in future la  :P

p/s: Currently, when downloading quick few MB torrents, Digi BB is so good that I not using VPN for it... no offense
But still, I still use streamyx for my bad habit of heavy torrenting with vpn and my digi bb is for painless web surfing experiences

Theres a chance ur neice is not under digi's 3G coverage. If u not, u will go into digi edge which is only 192Kbps speed only and has higher latency than the 3G network.
