Server Locations and Legal Issues
« on: May 05, 2016, 06:38:18 AM »
Hi,

I know that where you are based you are outside the laws of many of the more harsh countries when it comes to privacy laws. However, what about your servers that are located in those Countries? What all is needed for the governments where your servers are located to gain access to those servers? Would they simply have to provide a warrant to the datacenter where the server is located or would they have to provide the warrant to your company through the laws that your company falls under?

Dear BamaStang

Sure, they may have to compel the datacenter people to let them in but given that our datacenter owners do not have root access to our servers, not much they can do except see the encrypted traffic and especially for those using the shared IP that makes it harder to pinpoint. That is the more likely route as opposed to serving it on us.

And as the server keeps no logs, not much they can seize. Server would be taken offline and we would know about it. Of course there's the off chance a logging device is attached to our server which will record the incoming traffic into our server WITHOUT OUR KNOWLEDGE but this will only record meta data and not the actual data itself.

Which is why we recommend our users not to use a particular VPN server all the time and keep on rotating which makes it much much more difficult.

Regards,
Reuben
