Plans to use Raspberry Pi with Bolehvpn
« on: January 16, 2014, 11:14:21 AM »
Hi,

I live in Penang Malaysia and am planning to replace the Astro TV account with Boleh so that I can access UK freeview TV channels.

I will use a Rasbberry Pi to access UK TV (via Boleh) and pass it to my TV (1386 x 768 pixels) via the Pi's HDMI connection. I have used a Pi before in UK so have a working knowledge of Linux. Having looked at the Boleh web site I am confident that what I am attempting is feasible.

The hardware I will require is:

Streamyx 4MB ADSL internet connection
D-Link ADSL router DSL-2640B (provided with Streamyx account).
Raspberry Pi 512MB Ram
Raspbian "Wheezy" OS (Debian Based)
8GB SD Class 10 card
Powered USB HUB
USB Wireless Adaptor
USB external Hard Disc

Before I start to buy the hardware, has anyone got any comments/suggestions.

You can use our .deb package in our download section to install openvpn instead of the vanilla openvpn from pi.
You may need to install dependencies pkg like lzo first.

As for your hardware, check what is your PI cpu since there is some overhead in the encryption/decryption when you are using vpn.

Thanks PitBoss.

The Pi processor is equivalent to a pentium running at around 300 MHz.

Does that sound OK?
