Can BolehVPN be used as a proxy for bypassing strict firewalls
« on: December 07, 2010, 09:39:39 PM »
I'm currently working on-site in a client's office, and unfortunately, a lot of services are blocked. I can't remote desktop, SSH, TeamViewer and etc when my other clients (different office building) need support.

1) Can I use BolehVPN to bypass these restrictions?
2) Can I selectively route only certain apps through BolehVPN (perhaps via SOCKS5)?

i.e.
PuTTY #1: Connect to client A's intranet servers
PuTTY #2: Connect to other client's internet servers

If you can get connection to our servers, then you can use the same socks5 proxy that we have in the private and public servers. But if the targeted computers your are ssh or rdp is located in Malaysia, then the latency is quite high, should be ok for ssh but definitely not for rdp. If the servers are in europe or US, then it should be reasonable.

If you are local (MY), then we suggest you request by email access to our local server, which is sufficient to support ssh or rdp.

Thanks Pit Boss!

Most of my servers are in Malaysia, but I do have a couple in the US as well. I think I'll sign-up for the 7-day trial to see if your servers are blocked. You guys use Port 443, right?

edit: Yes I'm local

Thanks Reuben :) I've signed up for the 7 day trial. Hope to try the VPN in the office tomorrow!

Oh no, seems like they blocked it  :-\

I'm using TCP443 server. I get the following errors:

Code: [Select]
Fri Dec 10 13:23:42 2010 [UNDEF] Inactivity timeout (--ping-restart), restarting
Code: [Select]
Fri Dec 10 13:31:46 2010 read TCPv4_CLIENT: Connection timed out (WSAETIMEDOUT) (code=10060)
Fri Dec 10 13:31:46 2010 Connection reset, restarting [-1]

However when I use my mobile broadband, it connects instantly. Oh well.

Any other alternatives?

I tried doing an SSH tunnel using PuTTY (without OpenVPN) and I seem to be able to connect using Port 8080. Port 443 connects but closes itself very quickly. So it seems my building allows outbound port 8080. I know this may sound ridiculous, but any possibilities of setting up a VPN that listens to Port 8080?
