Alternative P2P - Torrent Clients
« on: May 17, 2012, 07:22:13 AM »
For those of you that would like an alternative to uTorrrent.

Many of these are very nice alternatives, but please be aware I've listed many clients to make this a more complete list. Some of these might not be so great, so play around and see, I'm sure they won't blow up your computer, LOL... ;)

BitComet - Read to many negative things, but you might like it

BitLord

Some further comments.

Transmission on Mac is a pretty well respected client.
Vuze (formerly Azureus) is the only Mac client I know that has full SOCKS5 support for the P2P traffic. Transmission only proxies the tracker communication.

For linux, I like rTorrent :D

Transmission on Ubuntu and Ubuntu based Linux versions is the standard client installed, so it's pretty common...

In Linux I've really liked Deluge...

Additionally to this torrent thread: there is a free media player Rox Player that is able to stream torrent files. While it streams it also downloads it so make both things at the same time.

Since we cant view the IPT forums to varify, anyone know which of these listed here are approved clients/versions?  As there might be a update/change to approved clients where some were not allowed for whatever reason and now perhaps given the green light due to fixes made as new versions.  I am interested to try out some of these but am not willing to test on public sites for obvious reasons.

I don't know, but if you're asking, don't you have access to IPT? I'm sure like most Torrent Trackers they list the approved and disapproved clients you can and can't use...

Well bro, I've done a DUH .... havent I.  :P   I looked high and low in their FAQ and rules; couldnt find their list of recommended and disapproved clients, 'till I hit their home screen which I had always bypass.  Even still their list of approved clients is certainly limited compared to those mentioned here for 'testing' without getting banned.

Ahh ok, just send them a message to find out if you want to use a different client to make sure it's ok... :)
