Call to Test BolehVPN with Linux
« on: August 06, 2009, 01:00:22 AM »
Suddenly a couple of my servers using Linux (Ubuntu, Opensuse) have stopped working through BolehRoute though continue to work through BolehVPN.

Could someone confirm this?

Symptoms are:
Pings go through and resolves correctly.
However when you try to access a website it will establish a connection and wait for headers/connection and do nothing.
It will then timeout.
Disconnecting the VPN, restores full functionality and surfing.

This only happens with Linux...Not with Windows.

Would appreciate if someone could try this out.

Yeah, I'm seeing that same thing. Pings *do* resolve but websites timeout.

I *did* get google.com to partially load once, but it took a *long* time, and the image never finished. It also showed the .uk suffix, so I know it was connecting to the server's locality.

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64 Desktop.

I tried using FireFox and Elinks, and both had the same results.

I haven't been using bolehroute, so I have no idea when it was last working properly.

Still no change.

This time I waited for the Google logo image, which is 8 KBs, to finish downloading and it took about 5 minutes. lol

Bolehroute #1 was also the one that I tried last time.

Alright noted we're looking into it.

For some reason there's an incompatibility with linux systems yet it works great with windows....

Curious...will keep you posted.

I rebooted into my old partition of Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64 Desktop, which hasn't had any software updates since I switched to 9.04 back in April, and even it was having the same problems.

I even booted an old live CD of Ubuntu 8.04 AMD64 Desktop, installed openvpn, and it was having the same problems as well.

So it looks like it isn't a software update regression, at least not client-side.

Well it's late here, and I'm going to get some sleep. I'll send you a PM whenever I get a chance to be around the computer for a while.

Yeah, both bolehroute #1 and #2 seem to be working fine now.

Bolehroute #2 required several attempts to successfully connect to the server. I guess it's just getting heavy traffic?

Where is the server status page anyway?

The link to it at
http://www.bolehvpn.net/forum/index.php/topic,61.0.html
doesn't seem to be valid any more.
