upgrade 1.5mb to 4mb

hai there, need some advice from blhvpn users.im planing to ugrade my 1.5mb package to 4mb(streamyx).,
is it worth it?how abt the download speed.?
what are the average download speed i will get on 4mb connection..?
what abt the ip range,?is it using static or dynamic ip address.?
what the best ip range for 4mb connection...
im staying at section 28 shah alam,do my location near with the exchange point of streamyx??
other things i need do so i can optimize my 4mb connection?

p/s: sorry for a lot of noob question,hope someone wise and kind to answers all my enquiries..thanks

It's all relative. If you're lucky, you'll be getting 400-500 kB/s. Everyone's experiences are different, you might be as unlucky as Reuben (check the blog for the full story, it's a while back) or you could be lucky and get full bandwidth.

As a 4mbit user, you get access to the 4mbit IP range. It's still dynamic, just usually confined to this range. Best thing to do to optimize your connection? Hope and pray for good luck, :p

4mbps is 4 million bits per second. That works out to 488kBytes/sec. (4,000,000 divide by 8, and divide by 1024).

My average torrent speed is 280-320kBytes/sec. I guess that is because torrents overhead - you're client is talking to over 100 peers at the same time.

With FTP there is lower overhead (only 3-4 concurrent downloads), so I get faster speeds at 400-420kByes/sec.

At that speeds, I download more that I can watch.

FYI,

4Mbps is just for internal surfing within Malaysia. The speed going out to International sites is on "best-effort" basis.

recently upgrade to 4mbs from 1mbs
you should get average speed of 380kB/s +- 10kB/s on utorrent depend on the routing and amount of seeder
direct download can reach 460KB/s on good server
steam game download speed can reach 450+ (malaysia and singapore server setting)

BolehVPN's current max bandwidth to subscribers is 4mbps,i wonder if it will be increased in future for streamyx 4mbps users capped at 5mbps & unifi subscribers?
