Let this be a reminder that we do not allow our VPN to be connected in multiple locations SIMULTANEOUSLY. We only allow one VPN connection running at one time from one IP.
Let’s assume you are using it at your workplace and your home.
When you are at home you use the VPN but when you leave the house to go to the office, you disconnect from your home pc, and then connect to the VPN on the office PC.
This is allowed.
You connect to our VPN from both locations (your office and home) at once.
This is NOT allowed and will be caught by our system which will alert us to take action.
We have seen certain scenarios where users have connected to 4 different locations while paying for only one subscription. In effect you are consuming the resource of 4 users while paying for one. This is an abuse of our service and will result in a warning first and if it’s not rectified within 24 hours, a summary termination of your account without refund though we are of course willing to forgive provided that you confirm that you understand the breach and will not repeat it again.
We have begun issuing warnings and terminating repeat offenders. Thus far 24 people have been found doing this of which 3 have been permanently terminated.
We have noticed that especially during peak hours it seems that TM throttles / traffic shapes FTP connections. Those on seedboxes may experience slower FTP transfer speeds that necessitates using many threads.
We have found that passing the FTP program through theVPN massively increases this speed.
Without VPN: 4.3 kB/sec
With VPN: 100 + kB/sec
This was all done on ONE thread on the same server. Something worth exploring should you be hammering your head on why FTP speeds are less than spectacular.
BolehRoute 2 was experiencing some issues that we just discovered today.
This has now been rectified and apologies for the inconvenience caused.
We are still monitoring the server.
EDIT: There still appears to be some issues on this server and we are looking into it.
Update: This server is now fixed and we are monitoring it.
Streamyx is having slowdowns on its international link especially in the KL and Negeri Sembilan area according to their automated announcement on their TM phone support.
However it does seem to be a nationwide problem with customers in Penang and Sarawak also reporting slowdowns.
Kedah also may be affected as per the following notice:
29 Jan 2009 SERVICE INTERRUPTION
Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) would like to inform its customers at Taman Bersatu, Arau, Kedah that its Streamyx service at the area is currently experiencing a disruption of service due to a cable breakdown caused by third party contractors. Hence, residents at the affected area will not be able to utilize their telephony or Internet services.
We have performed testing on our VPN and seedbox servers to rule out a problem on our end.
