L2TP/IPSec VPN Beta Launched, Feedback sought

L2TP/IPSEC VPN FOR MOBILE DEVICES

We are opening testing of this L2TP/IPSEC VPN to our users.

This service is geared more towards mobile devices such as IPhones/IPads and Android devices where you wish to secure your surfing or appear from a different location though it should also work on Desktops (though we still feel OpenVPN is superior for desktop/laptop scenarios).

Currently the L2TP server is located in Luxembourg but we plan to include a US server as well.

To set this up, please follow the following guides depending on OS here.

Please post your feedback in the comments section! We have spent a lot of time and resources developing this and need to know whether users will be interested in such an option! Thanks!

Awesome, I have been waiting for this for so long. It has been frustrating not to be able to set up openvpn on my phone, this solves all the problems. I hope you will continue to support and develop this.

  2. Shooq says:

Try it just now but failed to connect. Is it the secret i need to put “bolehvpnkey” or i need to put the key from the cert that u normally email in order to connect bolehvpn via openvpn?

  3. pitboss says:

Use exactly the ID given in the guide.
    bolehvpn/bolehvpn for userid/password to login
    preshared secret key is bolehvpnkey

    Thats it.

Two servers are now accessible with L2TP/IPSEC. EU and USA.
USA is limited to certain ports as in US Surfing/Streaming purposes while EU is ‘do-what-you-wish’ vpn server.
Both servers are fully routed servers. All traffic will be routed thru the VPN server.

iPAD users need to subscribe hulu plus if want to view streaming directly from hulu on your iPAD

I manage to set this up successfully on my iPhone and iPad. How would I know which server it hits once connected? I would like to be able to select US or EU depending on the service required. Thanks.

  6. hasif says:

Actually whatvcan we do if we connect this via our ipad? I’m confused pls help

      hasif:
A lot of people don’t realize that using unsecured wifi access points or public hotspots or even WEP encrypted hotspots are not that safe using mobile devices. Using this ensures that your personal data doesn’t get intercepted in such public areas.

Also, some services require you to be in US or Europe for them to allow you to use it.

For e.g. Pandora, Hulu Plus, Netflix, Veoh

Some of them require you to additionally have US physical address but this at least allows you to meet the first requirement of having a US IP.

  7. Bajunid says:

Pandora steam super smoothly via Maxis 3G network. Not installing Netflix and trying to activate the 1 month free trial period….

  8. Bajunid says:

Aaaannnddd another update…Netflix streams smoothly over 3G network as well…although super pixellated maybe due to lower 3G bandwith..will try on a 5Mb Unifi line once I got home today! Looks like you guys crack the code nicely Rueben.

    Thanks!

  9. boux says:

hey dude what about blackberry? |:

    • Reuben says:

boux: Blackberry does not support L2TP I think. Furthermore data already encrypted and goes through RIM’s servers in Canada.

  10. Joe Chong says:

Excellent. Manage to configure to hit the US server, and I can stream Pandora perfectly. This opens up endless possibilities of using the US only services. I can also download songs from Amazon now (buying legally) 😉

  11. Benzer says:

    Hi,
It does not work in Samsung Galaxy I9003. OS is froyo 2.2. Iam trying to solve the issue for the past few months. Really appreciate it and surely will be a follower of ur site.

  12. Shooq says:

I think i know why i cannot connect to l2tp. Its because im using connection behind fw. So what port should i release in order to connect to l2tp? Is it standard port which is 1701?

  13. Pitboss says:

Mkae sure that port 1701,4500 is open.

  14. bajunid says:

    Rueben,

I read in the forum you mentioned we can use this to make the PS# connect via vpn as well…how exactly?

  15. Work flawlessly with Asus Eee Pad Transformer… Greatly helping when i cant download almost everything from Market due to some issue/country limitation with Google server…

Definitely a good investment for Android user…
