Google Chrome searches from address/omnibar redirects to blank.html pages and the fix Update: Fixed

Sometime today, you may have noticed that Google Chrome’s searches from the address bar seem to redirect to blank.html with some code behind. It seems to be platform independent as both Windows and Mac users are reporting the same issue with Chrome.

For e.g. a search for bolehvpn on Google shows this blank page:

Restarting Chrome does not work. There is however a hack to fix this while we await for an official response from Google from BolshoiBrit:

Found a work around:

Add a new a search engine in wrench >> settings >> search “Manage Search Engines”. Under “other search engines” add a new search engine using this address for the URL http://www.google.com/search?q=%s
Name it “Google 2” or whatever you want. Works like a charm.

It was also suggested that clearing history and cookies worked too for some users. Tell us if you’re facing the same issue in the comments section!
Google has posted an update to state that it has now been fixed:

“The issue that was affecting search in Chrome should be resolved for most users. The next order of business is figuring out the cause, and making sure it doesn’t happen again. Thanks for hanging with us through the rough patch.”
