BolehVPN: Time for Feedback

We’ve been operating since March 2007 and our service has developed a lot from just a handful of users to now over a 1200 users! As we approach the end of 2009, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our faithful users and welcome our new ones. It’s been a long road and we are glad that you could share it with us!

We’ll like to hear feedback on our service and particularly areas in which we can improve on.

We would especially love to hear from you on the following:

  1. Website layout
  2. Installation Instructions
  3. Support options and the way support issues are handled
  4. Suggested additional features
  5. Payment Options (is there a payment method we don’t support but would like to see added?)
  6. Possible events/promotions
  7. Member get Member Schemes
  8. General comments or anything that comes to mind! (except the ones below) 😛

Several things we WON’T be changing are the following:

  1. Pricing (we offer the best price we believe is sustainable)
  2. Local/SE Asian servers (we have done research on this and people have been unwilling to pay the premium for such a service)
  3. Routing issues (this is beyond our control)
  4. Private Tracker Access policy

Out of those posting feedback (via comments), we would reward the best suggested feedback (good or bad) with an additional 30 days of VPN added to their account (the existing account must be still active) so start posting!

BolehVPN sure gained my trust for reliable VPN service.
Everything is so well that I can use it everyday without any major problem. Well there is problem but it’s ISP related. LoL~
Support is great. I can get problem resolved in days if not hours from the support in forum.

Well, I’m no longer a BolehVPN subscriber merely because I don’t need it much right now and short in budget. =P
So, let’s not choose my one as the best/bad feedback.
Choose someone who are currently an active subscriber. XD

I’ve been using streamyx 1Mbps since early 2005, back then I don’t even know what VPN really is, to me streamyx is just about right at the time, For almost nearly 5 years I don’t really knew that they “the ISP” are actually putting a limit in my upload speed even though I paid for it for years, and that’s not cool since its not cheap, and I should point it out again that I STILL NEED TO PAY FOR IT AND IT’S NOT CHEAP!! But thanks to my friend who introduced to me about BolehVPN services, the problem is solved just in an instant, its that easy! And I was quiet surprise by the results of I’m getting from my p2p experience, it enhanced the speed and reliability for getting whatever file or data that I want from p2p, even the poorly seeded one! And I can even seeded it back to the community because of full speed upload that I can give! It warms my heart a little and I feel more satisfied.

I am quiet aware about another country’s broadband services that are actually offering more options, reliable, faster, and CHEAPER. But sadly in our current situation we don’t really have all that yet.

BolehVPN is my 1st VPN I’ve ever subscribed and I hope I don’t have to change to any other VPN services. If we still don’t have a choice of more proper, reliable and cheaper broadband, and U really like to p2p a lot, I strongly suggest U subscribe to BolehVPN because its friendly, reliable, easy to setup, and more importantly BolehVPN gives more values to your streamyx!

I know it because I am one of many satisfied customers of BolehVPN services! Keep it up guys!! Thank You!

Umm … full text for the blog’s RSS feed?

    • Reuben says:

Haris: Think I just enabled it. Will see whether it works on future posts! 😀 Thanks!

It should work on a proper feed reader but not Firefox unfortunately.

Two thumbs up.Nice support n service which I know about this sooner

The nature of BVPN makes it sometimes harder (than normal connections) to figure out what is wrong when something is wrong.

I think a really useful feature to complement your current offering (which is otherwise pretty much complete, very good, and rarely wrong), would be some kind of speedtest / ping / traceroute application, configured to route properly between endpoints through your various layers of network, so that users could diagnose by themselves whether their local connection is bad, BVPN network is having a problem, or the backbones after BPVN are affected by something.

    Keep it up!

    Some of my ideas:

    1. We have 4 configuration: boleh route, private, public & streaming. It was recommended that we chose private for private trackers and public trackers. But what if we have trackers from both worlds? As for me, I choose private when for either one. I would like to recommend an extra option that can be used for users who utilises trackers from both world. This option is not tweaked to any either private or public setting but more to achieve an optimal setting for users who uses both trackers.

    2. The website is simple, clean and direct like Google. Let’s keep it that way.

    3. I have a tough time with the forums. Seems very clustered and I noticed that topics are scattered all over the board. Maybe streamlining the topics and reducing the number of channels we have now. Or better integrate them.

    4. Application for support access is very unique and is only used once. I suggest a stand alone page instead of integrating it with the current forum.

    5. FAQ and troubleshooting guide should be moved to their own page (something like wiki style). The one we have now is linking back to the forum.

    6. Information for Potential / New Customers channel and subtopic payment support should have it’s own space / page that talks about accounts only. Prolly can use this page for existing customers to check on their account status, update profiles and do other things.

    7. Sub topic BolehVPN Development should be moved to its own channel.

    8. Open a new channel called Announcements that is only used by admins to post any new developments and provide links directly to the channels the update took place. This will allow all customers to view only one channel to get access to all new and updated information. This would be a more detailed version of the status & news page we have now.

That’s all I can think of now. Will update if anything useful pop-up.

    Cheers.

if possible, add disconnect idle connection in openvpn for specific time, like 30mins or so
might helps save some server resources from idle lurkers (including myself 😛 )

    just my 2 kupang

new way of renewing? via a login process… and just click to pay with credit or upload of bank in slip… all within the login process… and the new codes sent to the logins subsection files… so we can refer back if we somehow loose it… this way u can also provide… how long that particular person has subscibed for bolehvpn also… similarly with the unique id… u can always use the id for member get member promos or anything else… also increase the reminder time of end date subscription to a week to 5 days…

Just using bolehvpn around 1 month and is the 1st vpn I use, below are some of my suggestion:

1.Ya,I support the idea of getting a setting that work well with both private and public trackers.

2.I should apply to bolehvpn seedbox service if the service got bigger space and support both private and public trackers.

3.Can have the longer renew period? Its more convenience for everyone.

  11. jim browning says:

I just got into the torrent scene about 3 months ago and soon figured out that I needed some sort of protection.

Needless to say, I signed up for Bolehvpn but did not know if it was good/bad etc…; and I still do not really know.

I do know that I feel a bit safer and that my free leeching on the private tracker seems to good to be true. I did finally donate 10 bucks and feel that I am still being a cheapskate. I am amazed what I can download, I really am!

The access to IPTorrents is worth so much to me.

  12. Ranjit says:

Its difficult to get British shows on IPTorrent, thus if there was a way to “add another” – could you consider “www.thebox.bz” for fans who love british shows.

Have been very happy with bolehvpn, and hope that IPTorrent will also still remain.

  13. Wolffeh says:

Sureash: You could use the Publictracker configuration or BolehRoute for public and private torrents. Easier that way.

Ranjit: I don’t believe we could arrange for freeleech status on Thebox, as we have freeleech on IPT due to Reuben being friends with the IPT owner. Also, it’s not that hard to seed on Thebox, if you jump on the weekly freeleech. I maintain my account just fine, on a 1mbps line.

  14. Sureash says:

    Wolffeh,

I tried using public and private to see which is better. But the problem is it’s random results. Many a times one of these configurations gives me better results.

BolehRoute solves the problem of private or public trackers. Unfortunately, it creates a big problem when I am browsing. Sites like facebook is a nightmare with extreme long loading time. Ping replies to many servers is at least 3x the normal result. And that is only when the streamyx connection is good. And we all know how often that happens.

There was a mention about high latency in the installation guide when browsing using Bolehroute and the estimation was accurate until for the last month or so. Now it’s so bad that loading time takes ages.

I have been using the bolehroute until recently with the worst than poor connection. And I aspect this will continue to an unforeseen future. I believe that we should should come up with a counter measure just to be on the safe side.

    Note:

I followed the instructions on how to use the foxyproxy and configure it. I highly recommend that that piece of info is given a page. Ever since I start using private tracker configuration, using samples from the forum, I have created special rules that allows me to access certain websites via BVPN.

  15. neptern says:

I sure would like a singapore proxy as i find it pretty fast but a bit expensive.

Other than that great service all the way!!!

  16. andrewhawk says:

Been a subscriber since the early days, and I have to say, I have very little problems with the service.
Support has been great and I think the new blog site is a good addition to the service.
The blog does answer any problems the current subscribers have with the service, either related or non-related (Streamyx) in a quick and efficient manner.

My suggestions on further improvements, are
    – an easier method of payment, probably direct payment gateway to M2u or CImb Clicks, in a secured web interface.
    – An account tracker that will provide both the user and the service provider a log of the subscription payments and timeline.
    – Some promotions from time to time, to entice users to resubscribe.
    – a loyalty program for long time subscribers, either in terms of discounts, free bonus time, trial for new services etc..
    – An easy to use FAQ that has video support for non-IT savvy users to understand and how to’s vids.
    – A weekly/monthly tech/gaming podcast, to further build the user-base and grow the community. (this will be good, since we do not have good local tech podcast around)

I do think most people stay due to the good service and the prompt replies, so keep it up guys.

    Oh! This is great.
I’d love a clock or two that showed your and my time zones. 🙂 To hell with everybody else.
I’d also like a little favicon so you’re site doesn’t look so lame in my favorites.
It would be nice to know everyone’s ages.

  18. Silencers says:

Been subscribing since, eh, late 2007/early 2008? Can’t remember. Great and efficient service, delivers its promises, prompt support and value for money.
    – BIGGER FONTS PLEASE. Especially on the blog. Im not too fancy about squinting when I read.
    – Do roadshows! Especially at anime events, where a lot of the attendees are people who grab stuff via bittorrent 😀

  19. Man says:

Get a theme that suits the forum.

  20. unthrottleme75 says:

Lots of corporate networks control what we can and can’t access on the internet. I currently connect to my home computer through openvpn using tcp on port 443. If you were to offer a boleroute service on tcp port 443 that would be great for many people that have their access to the outside internet blocked or restricted and tunneling out on the more common vpn ports is blocked.
