Setting Up BolehVPN in Ubuntu 8.10
« on: November 19, 2008, 02:08:58 PM »
Here is the updated instruction of " Setting Up BolehVPN in Ubuntu 8.10 " . Pardon me for some mistakes.

Good Day to everyone.

Recently, I coincidently found a method to help ubuntu user to setup their bolehvpn connection in their Ubuntu machine. You don't have to install kvpn or any other vpn connection manager as the OpenVpn is already installed on your machine. Followings are the necessary steps:

1. Install OpenVPN from Add/Remove. Applications ---> Add/Remove.Type OpenVPN in the top RHS search box. Let the installation completes.
1. Right click on the network connection manager
2. Click on the 'Edit Connection'
3. Click on the 'VPN' connection tab and click on the import button.
5. Locate your bolehvpn or bolehroute config file and open them. You'll see " -random " in the "Gateway" box. You may fill in the "Gateway" box with your preferred BolehVPN server IP of choice if you wish to.
6. Next, you'll need to fill in the necessary details such as User Cert, CA cert and Private key which the steps are similar to (5).
Private key password need not to be filled in.

7. You may want to click on the 'connect automatically' if you want to establish the connection with bolehvpn server automatically once
you have the internet connection. Also, if you click the 'system setting', all your ubuntu updates and application download will be
channel via the bolehvpn server. You may not want to do that because to help reduce the server load.
8. Click close.
9. Click your network connection manager, go to vpn connection and choose your preferred connection ie: bolehroute, Private Tracker, Public Tracker or
   US-SurfingStreaming.
10. While the openvpn negotiating the connection to the server, you may see a yellow padlock symbol and a looping connection logo trying to establish the
connection and once you are connected, you may see the yellow padlock logo only.
11. If the connection fails to establish, you can try it again.

For other Ubuntu version prior to Ubuntu 8.10, I'm really sorry that I'm not quite sure how to setup the bolehvpn connection as I myself had numerous failures setting up the connection when I was using Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. Only the recent Ubuntu 8.10 works as the primary goal of the release was to make the internet connection extremely easy.

I hope with this simple easy to understand tutorial would help Ubuntu user out there.

Cheers ;D
