BolehVPN now accepts BitCoin (Trial Run)

WeAcceptBitcoinMany of you asked us on whether we accepted BitCoins.

One of the main problems with BitCoins was that in Malaysia, exchanging BitCoins into Malaysian Ringgit was a very troublesome process and involves massive transactional fees which did not make it viable.

We think we finally found an acceptable solution to this and we’re pleased to accept BitCoins as a trial run and see how it all pans out.

BitCoins main advantage is that it is anonymous which is ideal for those seeking privacy from even payment processors for buying a VPN service.

To encourage use of BitCoins during this trial period, we’ll be giving an extra day free for any account purchased using BitCoin for the month of January 2013. We’ll still have to process Bit Coin payments manually like Liberty Reserve for this time until we see how popular it is :D .

BolehVPN Great Firewall Bypass Beta Ready!

THIS NOTICE IS ONLY FOR THOSE USERS IN CHINA/IRAN/highly internet restricted countries. Customers of other countries need not use this beta service. It does not improve security since it uses the same encryption. It merely makes VPN traffic harder to identify at the cost of some speed.

Thank you for your patience! We are finally ready to let you try our Beta Great Firewall Bypass service for Windows! (Mac users have to wait).

What other providers do to bypass is a mixture of altering packet size or using port numbers but we felt that this were temporary solutions.

Our new system disguises traffic to look like regular harmless traffic instead of VPN traffic hence reducing the chance of it being blocked. We believe we’re the first VPN provider to implement this. Fingers crossed!

Instructions to use the BolehVPN-GUI GFW Bypass service.

  1. Uninstall your previous BolehVPN-GUI
  2. Download the new installer here or alternate link.
  3. You will see now the BolehVPN program launcher, and two additional icons, Cloak and UnCloak.
  4. Start BolehVPN, login, but do not connect to any server yet.
  5. Click on Cloak. You will not see anything or at most a quick popup window that will disappear.
  6. Select GreatFirewallBypass configuration and connect:
  7. You will see something like this:

Sat Dec 15 22:34:34 2012 Attempting to establish TCP connection with [AF_INET]127.0.0.1:1050Sat Dec 15 22:34:34 2012 TCP connection established with [AF_INET]127.0.0.1:1050

    Sat Dec 15 22:34:34 2012 TCPv4_CLIENT link local: [undef]

    Sat Dec 15 22:34:34 2012 TCPv4_CLIENT link remote: [AF_INET]127.0.0.1:1050

Sat Dec 15 22:34:45 2012 [server] Peer Connection Initiated with [AF_INET]127.0.0.1:1050

  8. This means you’re already connected once the status bar hits 100%.
  9. Test by browsing to a censored site and see if it loads.
  10. Once you’re done, disconnect from GreatFireWall bypass.
  11. Double click on UnCloak.

Currently we only have two servers in Netherlands and Hong Kong configured for this bypass but if it works out for a longer period of time, we’ll add more configurations. Thanks!

We’ll refine this setup over the next few weeks but we wanted to get out a solution as soon as possible.

Note: we are still working hard on a Mac version.

Acceptance of Prepaid Visa Gift Cards (that restrict country use)

For our customers wishing to use prepaid visa gift cards that restrict country use as an anonymous method of payment, we now have a reliable way to accept this with minimal hassle.

As you may have realized, certain gift cards (especially those from the US), have recently restricted payments to payment processors outside the USA.

For example:

Can I use my Visa Gift card outside of the United States?

If your gift card states Valid only in the United States on the front, your issuer has issued a Domestic Use Only card. Although your gift card will not be accepted at locations outside of the United States, it’s welcome at millions of locations within the U.S. where Visa Debit cards are accepted.

Source: Visa

Not all Visa Prepaid gift cards have this restriction! So if you are intending to buy a gift card, do check with your provider as to whether it can be used.

Procedure to use Prepaid Gift Cards with BolehVPN:

  1. Open a Support Ticket or e-mail us letting us know that you wish to pay via a prepaid gift card that doesn’t seem to work on our MolPay processor (you should always try with MolPay first via our online customer portal if you are unsure if there is a domestic lock).
  2. The e-mail/ticket should contain:
    Desired VPN Package:

    Credit Card Number:
    Credit Card Type:
    CVV/Security Code:
    Amount on Card:
    Expiry Date:
Below are applicable only if required (for e.g. it’s an online prepaid visa gift card with preset names/addresses):
    Name on card:
    Address:
Any administration site for the card:
    Administration Site Login:
  3. The WHOLE of the balance on the credit card has to be given to us and they will be used to settle our various server bills. If the card contains more credit than the package price, your package will be extended accordingly to reflect the additional amounts paid.
  4. Once we have verified receipt, we will activate your account for you.
  5. You shall not use the credit card details once it is handed over to us and in the event that the card is declined or there is a shortfall when we do use it, your account will be terminated immediately. Please note that your prepaid card may not be charged immediately and will be used as and when we require them.

Here are some prepaid gift card providers that we believe allow internet transactions (though we do not guarantee they will work and are just based off our internet research and their FAQs). These cards should be able to be processed automatically through our Payment Gateway (MolPay). We always recommend you to double check!! We’ll update the list as we gather more.

BolehVPN and Mountain Lion 10.8

Mountain Lion 10.8 is released today! Before you upgrade, you may wish to note that there is a known bug of the interoperability of BolehVPN with Mountain Lion which in most cases can be fixed manually. Just requires a bit more fiddling until an official fix is released.

The fix is a two step process

a) Uninstall your old version of Tunnelblick and install it with the new beta version of Tunnelblick

b) If you can connect to Tunnelblick but do not have internet, follow the steps here.

Our BolehVPN Mac installation guide has been updated.

Also for those of you who are using our beta BolehVPN Mac-GUI, this is not compatible with Mountain Lion 10.8 yet and we’re working on a fix!

BolehVPN for Android (no Root needed!)

Now you can bring BolehVPN along with your Android phone/tablet regardless whether you’re rooted or not (support for Android 2.1 up to 4.0)! No longer do you have to worry about accessing public wi-fi hotspots with your mobile phone as now you can  rest assured that all communications are encrypted. This is thanks to a clever app called Feat VPN. The free version allows you to connect 1 hour per day while the paid version has no imposed time limit. We highly recommend you buy the full, paid version to support this amazing app.

View our updated guide courtesy of Frank. And before you ask, for Apple IOS devices, jailbreak is still unfortunately needed. :(
