In a recent dinner between Aizuddin Danian, rizvanrp, the guy who brought the Unifi vulnerability to light and TM’s CEO, several general themes have emerged as to the direction of the company.
The most important being the suggestion of imposition of caps for regular Streamyx users in the near future:

Also tell him to openly admit that they are currently throttling all of us until midnight
everyday. Why is the 4Mbps Streamyx package a night owl package?

- Thank you for the suggestions; these are all under our consideration .TM is currently in the midst of studying the best approach and offering before announcing the implementation.
- Please note that:
o The FUP practiced now is to maintain fair use for all TM customers. Fair Usage Policy (FUP) is a standard global practice implemented by telcos globally. This is to ensure a fair and even quality of service to all customers free from the irresponsible practices of a few.
o Capping is not in effect yet. We will announce at a later date and we promise a reasonable cap.
o We are looking to concurrently introduce volume-based pricing for power users who wish to transfer high volumes of data and do not mind paying for the privilege.
- TM wants to study the traffic patterns on our UniFi service thoroughly before taking anydecision on implementation.
On the bright side (if this can be construed as good news due to the long timeframe) a new cable is being built:
Last year, TM also joined a consortium to plan and develop a proposal to build an international undersea cable system, named Asia Pacific Gateway (APG) that links Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Philippines, Taiwan, China Mainland, Japan and Korea. The cable system will span 8,000km and it is expected to be ready for service by end of 2013.
What I find infuriating is the implication that more ‘local content’ should be created so that people don’t use international bandwidth as much…
All customers crave for speed but one must also understand that the download and upload speeds vary and is dependent on several factors such as location of website, capacity of visited web server, network congestion, running other applications simultaneously, etc. It is a fact that more than 80% of the websites that our users are accessing are sites located overseas. We do continue to upgrade our international capacity but there must be a longer term, more cost effective approach to this problem. At an industry perspective, creation of local contents must be encouraged. But this would perhaps be more of a longer term solution. Another approach that we are looking at is caching and mirroring of contents in-country. Popular contents are stored in-country so that users will have much better internet experience, with the reduction of congestion in the international links.
Once again, no statement has been made on this so-called capping and the official stance is that we’re all imagining the problems or its just congestion. Times like this you wish we had a more sue-happy country. Hart v Comcast anyone?

tmnet bosses are raking money for themselves. upgrading the system, konon2 changing this and that, all for their own side-income only for giving projects. after all the upgrades done over the years, we are still throttled, capped, congested. so wheres all the benefits of the said upgrades? none, since everything was done for the money, not the performance. – a fellow friend whos internally connected with tmnet.

Just don’t insult user’s knowledge by giving this stupid reason of fair usage policy,the packages already sorted by bandwidth from 1.5Mbps to 4Mbps.How could somebody be so stupid subscribing a 4Mbps package just to do a normal browsing?Like we 4Mbps user,we agreed to pay more for more bandwidth allocation on various usage pattern.Some of them have streaming room in the house could pay more,some of them who spents hundreds dollar on digital-tutors could pay more and heavy p2p users could pay more.This is just to fully utilize the bandwidth that they pay..RM140 a month is a pain in the ass for some people but they have no choice to get what they want and pay the amount.So this “irresposible” users are paying more! Just buy more fibre optic from our money already!
To TM,Just stop thinking of making more money and blaming user’s behaviour.They should rectify the persistent streamyx issues rather than creating a new problem with Unifi.Just clean up the old shit if you are going to make another…

If there are more competitors around. Tmnet service sure will improve. Look at Hong Kong Broadband service providers, they’re giving much better service and cheaper pricing.

You can organized a signature drive with a simple resolution, If TM capped, we vote opposition next GE. Get a thousand signature for each BN parliamentary constituent, and I can guarantee 99% for sure that anak Yatim will issue a decree to TM not to cap. Anyway since most of you are already going to vote for opposition, no harm going out gathering those signature.
Me, BN all the way. At least they know what they are doing, whether right or wrong.

So sad if thats the case.You subscribe for higher bandwidth package just ‘to finish your quota’ much more quickly.Why there is still so much weird and ridiculous act nowadays?If we just thought of some ‘shortcut’ to achieve what we want,GONE…HOPELESS.Another excuse they will made if your area are lucky enuff to be covered by Unifi,by subscribing Unifi Home,they will tell you dun stream video anymore use your ‘quota’ elsewhere cz the package came with ‘IPTV’…

ok I think I kena already, start from yesterday my full speed of 170-200kbps drop down to 20kbps!!!!!!!!!! damn so angry! Check my IP, they have arrange a new IP for me, start from 17x.xxx.xxx.xxx, no matter how i reboot still come with that IP range.

TMNUT is obsessed with their Fair Usage Policy and is using that to abuse us. But I don’t see them using the same policy against the financial district or government for that matter. Now why is that? Is it because they are paying millions? Is it because TM has a SLA with them? or is it cause people are easier lied to?
What ever the reason might be, we the 1.5 million Streamyx users don’t give a damn. If the fair usage policy is to ensure fairness then everyone must be capped. Not to mention TM has a SLA with Streamyx users too – to provide the best possible speed. Last I read the agreement, there was no mention of capping.
If TMNUT want to cap and con us by saying Fair Usage policy then fine go ahead. But cap EVERYONE.
