Streamyx Slowness Spreads

I am now experiencing a slowdown in surfing as well with some sites refusing to load. Kuching may be possibly affected as well in addition to Penang/Kelantan. No news from TM still.

Update: appears to be a nationwide issue now…Cyberjaya servers are also affected.

Update: Calling 100 returns an announcement that the slowness is due to the Conficker worm (no idea how true this is as this has been going on for months)

Batman Arkham Asylum ‘The Way it’s Meant to be Played’ on Nvidia cards … or is it really?

techpowerup! has reported that Anti-Aliasing (one of the most basic image enhancements in any game) is only enabled in Batman Arkham Asylum on Nvidia cards. ATI confirmed this by doing tests in their labs where they changed the ID of their GPU to emulate a Nvidia card which then turned AA on again.

Bug or intentional foul play? You decide.

Read about it straight from AMD’s Ian McNaughton here.

Streamyx outage in Penang/Kelantan

We are receiving some reports from our users that their internet connection has almost died completely for international sites especially those in Penang. Tech support from TM have not been informed of any problem as usual and as such are unable to advise as to what’s going on.

Will keep you guys posted as soon as we get something official.

Gmail Outage

Although unrelated to our service, yesterday Google confirmed that they had a problem with their Gmail for about an hour due to a problem with Google contacts.

This marks the 2nd time in 1 month that Gmail has gone down with an extended outage on 1 September that lasted several hours.

Full service has been restored by Google and if you’re Malaysian and still can’t access Gmail now, its probably just Streamyx ;)

Selamat Hari Raya to our Muslim friends

Hey all! Been really tied up with all the Raya visiting so I hadn’t had time to properly wish all our BolehVPN members a Selamat Hari Raya!

So to all of you Muslims, a Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri!

And to all the Chinese asking me if there are any discounts on Raya :P hehe no there isn’t.

Anyway here’s a video to remind us all of the beauty of racial harmony :P (made by Petronas for our 50th Merdeka Celebration)

Amusing Youtube Vids to Ease the Stress away

Does this really make you want to eat Dominoes Pizza?

Love the ‘free’ feeling of this video :D

And one of my favourite characters…the Swedish Chef and Beaker singing Habanera

BolehRoute is full again!

BolehRoute is again filled with users and has reached its user limit and as such people may be finding it difficult to connect to it. We are unable to upgrade the servers any further and would probably have to look into getting a new one. This will take some time and we hope to achieve this over the Raya holidays.

Can we ask users who are NOT using BolehRoute to disconnect so that other users can use it?

Calling All Rapidshare/Megaupload/Mediafire etc Users

We are looking for members of the community to test out this new service which allows you to download rapidshare/megaupload/mediafire files from our server instead of from rapidshare.

Why would you want this? Basically it means you can queue a download up and then leave it there to download and retrieve when it is convenient! You would also be able to multithread download from our servers thus further accelerating the process.

Now I’m not really a big fan of rapidshare especially with their silly 25 gb upload limit which makes it difficult to share totally among our users but it is handy for smaller files.

Looking for people to suggest a FEASIBLE way to do this.

Points of Consideration:

How much bandwidth should people be able to download a day?

How many simultaneous downloads?

If the files are set to auto-delete if they are not accessed after a while, how long should this grace period be?

How much should this service cost? I am thinking a small top up for VPN users but a full price for non VPN users. Or should it be only restricted to VPN users only?

We already have a test server running and are looking for senior members of our customer base to test it out. If you are interested, please post in this thread.

GoogleTalk and Body Odor

Now my main IM client is Googletalk. What it lacks in functionality, it makes up in cleanness and simplicity of use. It’s the Zen of IM.

I found something rather queer which I was hoping someone could explain. When I type the words BO, it gets highlighted in Blue. Other word combinations like OB or DO and many others I tried just don’t highlight it.

So do the folks at Google have an obsession for body odor? Or am I missing something obvious?

BO
